The Municipality of Mińsk Mazowiecki has signed a contract with MAN Truck & Bus for the delivery of a total of six 12-meter-long MAN Lion’s City 12 E electric buses. The vehicles will appear on Minsk streets in 12 months and will be the first electric buses in the city. The buses will be equipped with batteries (using NMC technology) with a capacity of 480 kWh, which, as the manufacturer emphasizes, guarantees mileage of more than 250 km on a single charge.
Lion from Starachowice
– We are very pleased that another city in Poland will have zero-emission buses, which will be produced at MAN’s Polish plant in Starachowice. The contract for Mińsk Mazowiecki confirms that these vehicles are performing very well in both large agglomerations and smaller cities. After Kędzierzyn-Koźle, Gdańsk, Włocławek, Stalowa Wola and Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski, now our first electrobuses will go to Mazowsze – said Olga Żarkowska, director of bus sales at MAN Truck & Bus Poland.
With pressure sensors
The vehicles ordered by Minsk Mazowiecki will be safe and comfortable thanks to installed safety systems such as ABS, ASR, monitoring of the vehicle interior and automatic fire detection and suppression. The set of buses also includes two unique systems: ESP and wheel pressure monitoring sensors, which are still rare in public transportation. On top of this, MAN has offered exterior and interior lighting fully made in LED technology, and the front fog lamps will be additionally equipped with a cornering illumination function.
On the plug-ins
Minsk’s electric buses will be recharged exclusively through plug-ins, meaning they will not have to use the expensive infrastructure of fast chargers located in the city. As a result, these vehicles will be always at the carrier’s full disposal and will not have to take technical breaks to recharge their batteries.
– This is due to the high-capacity NMC technology batteries, amounting to as much as 480 kWh in the MAN Lion`s City 12 E. This guarantees mileage of more than 250 kilometers in real road conditions, for the entire warranty period. In addition, all batteries are located on the roof of the vehicle, which translates into a better layout of the vehicle interior. – stressed Waldemar Sęk, regional sales manager at MAN Truck & Bus Polska.
Bounce-back version
The MAN electric buses’ propulsion system is based on a 160 kW central motor that is configured for ultra-smooth starting. It provides a quieter ride and better service accessibility.
The buses for Mińsk Mazowiecki will have doors in a 2-2-0 arrangement, of which the second door will be made in a very comfortable bump-and-slide design, i.e. it will open to the outside of the vehicle, making it easier for passengers to get in and out. The total capacity of the e-bus will be 78 people, including 29 seats, located mainly in the rear of the vehicle. The front of the bus, on the other hand, will thus be spacious, suited for the rapid exchange of passengers. There will also be four seats available here for people with limited mobility.
E-buses as a pillar of the strategy
– The Mińsk contract is another order for e-buses from the Polish market – after orders from Kędzierzyn-Koźle and Gdansk, while it is worth remembering that MAN is one of the leaders in introducing Europe to the world of emission-free urban mobility. The German manufacturer’s impressive experience in this field includes more than 700 electric buses, including the first units delivered to Poland (for Kędzierzyn-Koźle). In addition, there is a full portfolio of electric delivery vehicles (MAN eTGE), the construction of its own battery factory and the introduction of the first electric propulsions for trucks. This shows that MAN thinks about the development of electromobility very broadly, and that electric buses in the company’s strategy are one of the pillars of the green future of our cities – said Claus Wallenstein, Managing Director of MAN Truck & Bus Poland.
