A fleet of 20 Yutong electric buses will power public transportation in Bialystok. The contract for the purchase of the 12-meter, zero-emission vehicles along with charging infrastructure was signed by the deputy mayor of Bialystok and the CEO of Busnex Poland. This is the largest contract to date for the supply of „electrics” – both as far as the Podlaskie region and Yutong’s official representative, the aforementioned Busnex Poland, are concerned. The purchase was made as part of the project „Development of urban transport infrastructure in Bialystok”. – subsidized with nearly PLN 125 million from the Eastern Poland Operational Program.
– We are very satisfied. The contract with Bialystok shows that Yutong has hit the streets of Polish cities and municipalities. The number of electric buses of this brand delivered and contracted throughout Poland is already 55 units. More local governments, including those in Podlaskie Voivodeship, appreciate their advantages and operating parameters, including high range on a single charge – said Marcin Kucharski, president of Busnex Poland.
The Yutong E12, 20 copies of which will serve the residents of Bialystok next year, is an electric bus proven in Europe. It is more than 12 meters long, and can cover up to 350 – 400 kilometers on a single charge. Travel comfort is ensured by, among other things, a low-floor design and automatic air conditioning. The bus also has an energy recuperator to recover energy during braking.
Investment in clean air
– Our goal is efficient and modern public transportation. The purchase of zero-emission buses is an investment in cleaner air and a proper quality of life for residents. This is another stage of investments carried out by the City of Bialystok for several years, including road ones, creating an efficient public transportation system and modernizing the city’s transportation fleet – said Bialystok Deputy Mayor Zbigniew Nikitorowicz.
Record-breaking scale
The scale of the order is a new record when it comes to the purchase of electric fleet for the entire Podlaskie region as well. It was carried out as part of the project „Development of urban transport infrastructure in Bialystok”. – subsidized with nearly PLN 125 million from the Eastern Poland Operational Program. In addition to the purchase of e-buses, it also includes the delineation of bus lanes and the construction of a P+R transfer parking lot and infrastructure dedicated to public transportation.
– Electromobility is a sector that will develop more and more rapidly in the coming years in the Podlaskie Voivodeship. Electric vehicles are our future and we need to invest in them. After all, one of the three main pillars of Poland’s Energy Policy for 2040 is good air quality. We can achieve this by betting on the development of low-emission transport and aiming for zero-emission public transportation. The provincial government supports such measures, among others, by subsidizing the purchase of zero-emission electric and low-emission CNG buses from the regional program. Subsidies for such activities have been received, for example, by Suwałki and Łomża,” said Marek Olbryś, Deputy Marshal of the Podlaskie Voivodeship responsible in the provincial government for, among other things, the road transport sector.
