Two Yutong electric buses that will hit the streets of Łomża in November this year will be joined by another six units. The contract for the delivery of the 12-meter Yutong E12 buses was signed by the city’s mayor and Busnex Poland’s CEO. The electric fleet will be powered by energy from photovoltaic panels. The purchase of the electric buses was subsidized with nearly PLN 30 million from the Regional Operational Program of the Podlaskie Voivodeship. In addition, the city will have a network of 15 bicycle rental stations, both traditional and electric, as well as infrastructure elements supporting bicycle transportation.
– We are pleased that Łomża is following the path of electromobility, becoming increasingly involved in the development of green public transportation. A total of eight Yutong E12 electric buses – with a range of up to 400 kilometers each – is a solid boost to local public transportation – said Marcin Kucharski, president of Busnex Poland.
Second approach
This is the second time Łomża has chosen Yutong electric buses, which have been carrying residents of European cities for years. In Denmark alone, nearly 190 units of the E12 model successfully operate public transportation. The bus chosen by Łomża is more than 12 meters long and has a low-floor design, adapted to the needs of disabled people. It is equipped with automatic air conditioning and an energy recuperator to recover energy during braking.
12 electrics in two years
– The purchase of six more electric buses is one of a number of pro-environmental measures contributing to improving air quality in our city. The first two, which we have already acquired, will hit the streets of our city in November at the latest. And this is not the end, as we have received more than PLN 8.5 million for four more electric buses as part of green transportation. This is gratifying, because external funding allows us to make such important investments without burdening our own budget. As a result, a total of 12 electric buses will be on the streets of Lomza in 2024 – added Łomża Mayor Mariusz Chrzanowski.
30 million subsidy
The purchase of electric buses has been subsidized with nearly PLN 30 million from the Regional Operational Program of the Podlaskie Voivodeship as part of the „Sustainable Urban Mobility in Łomża” project. It also includes investments in RES and energy storage for public transportation, which the local government is gradually implementing. In this regard, it is a nationwide pioneer, installing the first photovoltaic panels as early as 2017.
Bicycle transportation in the plans
– The provincial government is making every effort to ensure that residents of smaller cities can also benefit from modern and environmentally friendly transportation. Nearly PLN 30 million will be allocated for the purchase of 8 electric buses. In addition, a network of 15 bicycle rental stations, both traditional and electric, will be created in the city, as well as infrastructure elements supporting bicycle communication. Such a large, integrated project will contribute to a new greener image of Łomża and join the cities betting on environmentally friendly urban transportation – stressed Marek Olbryś, deputy marshal of the Podlaskie Voivodeship, responsible in the voivodeship government for, among other things, transport.
